it has become a <b>legal and accounting obligation<\/b> for tens of thousands of companies.<\/p><p>And even if you are an SME or a self-employed person, even if no one is going to directly ask you for a \u2018sustainability report\u2019, you are going to feel the impact&#8230; In summary:<\/p><ul><li>Sustainability is no longer just a nice brochure.<\/li><li>It becomes <b>regulated information<\/b>, comparable between companies and with real consequences for financing, reputation and compliance.<\/li><\/ul><h3>Who will have a direct obligation and from when<\/h3><p>The simplified timetable is as follows:<\/p><ul><li><b>Large public interest companies<\/b>: they are already starting to report for the first financial years.<\/li><li><b>Other large companies (more than 250 employees)<\/b>: they will start reporting for financial years beginning in 2025 (reports published in 2026).<\/li><li><b>Listed SMEs<\/b>: they will join somewhat later, around 2026\u20132027, with some flexibility or temporary exemption.<\/li><\/ul><p>Spain is adapting all this through a <b>Draft Law on Corporate Sustainability Information<\/b>, which specifies:<\/p><ul><li>Who is subject to the requirements.<\/li><li>How the reports are prepared.<\/li><li>How they are verified (new figure of sustainability verifier under the supervision of the ICAC).<\/li><\/ul><h3>What about SMEs and self-employed persons who are not listed?<\/h3><p>The vast majority of SMEs and self-employed persons <b>will not be directly required<\/b> to produce a full CSRD report.<\/p><p>So why should you be interested in this issue?<\/p><p>Because your <b>clients<\/b> will be. Banks and financing<\/h3><p>Financial institutions are incorporating ESG criteria into:<\/p><ul><li>risk analysis,<\/li><li>loan approval,<\/li><li>financing conditions.<\/li><\/ul><p>It is increasingly common for lenders to require information on:<\/p><ul><li>business emissions and energy consumption,<\/li><li>employment situation (workforce, turnover, equality),<\/li><li>potential environmental or compliance risks.<\/li><\/ul><p>It is not just a matter of \u2018approving a loan\u2019, but of <b>the conditions under which it is granted<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\r\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" performs beyond purely financial<\/b> figures.<\/p><p>In English, it stands for:<\/p><ul><li><b>E \u2013 Environmental<\/b><\/li><li><b>S \u2013 Social<\/b><\/li><li><b>G \u2013 Governance<\/b><\/li><\/ul><p>In Spanish, people often refer to <b>ASG criteria (Environmental, Social and Governance)<\/b>, but it is the same thing.<\/p><h3>Why are they \u2018throwing it\u2019 at you everywhere now?<\/h3><p>Because:<\/p><ul><li>The EU, banks and large companies are using <b>ESG\/ASG criteria<\/b> to assess risks, grant financing and select suppliers.<\/li><li>With regulations such as the <b>CSRD<\/b>, large companies will have to publicly report their ESG data and, to do so, they will request information from <b>their SME and self-employed suppliers<\/b>.<\/li><\/ul><p>In summary:<\/p><p><strong>ESG\/ASG = how \u201chealthy and responsible\u201d the company is in environmental, social and governance terms.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/section>\r\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" Major clients and value chain<\/h3><p>If you work for:<\/p><ul><li>large construction companies,<\/li><li>industrial groups,<\/li><li>retail chains,<\/li><li>multinational companies,<\/li><\/ul><p>it is very likely that, from 2026 onwards, you will start to receive:<\/p><ul><li><b>sustainability questionnaires for suppliers<\/b>,<\/li><li><b>contractual clauses<\/b> linked to ESG,<\/li><li>requests for data on working conditions, energy consumption, etc.<\/li><\/ul><p>Essentially, your clients are passing on part of their transparency obligations.<\/p><h3>3.
